Well happy new year! So sorry its been so long since we have done any work on the site. I was going to add more pics to the pala event but the pics are huge files and every pic has to be edited to make smaller and i just havent had the time with all thats gone on with taryn this summer, work, et all... we have just been slammed, so sitting at the computer working on the site has become null.
I will say that taryn recovered from her pnemonia which almost killed her... it was a god awful time for us, but she made it through... this winter she had a bout with the flu which landed her in the hospital 2x's, mostly because she was so weak she couldnt eat and we needed to get iv fluids in her and also we were scared as crap that it would get into her lungs again. With out her able to speak and tell us whats wrong we are left to "best guess..."
You have to understand that mitochondrial disease is an energy depletion disease and when you have the flu your body needs energy to fight... so its pretty scary when she gets sick.
Our event for 20111 is in the planning process! We are bringing the ride back "home"... with the economy and all we are just going to simplify things... I couldnt possibly spend the time on the ph this year getting all the wonderful auction items again.. last year i spent 6 months solid and its just too much work for us... so were outing that part of our event and its been a lot less stressful already.
Sadly Jay and Jen had to close Corona Harley this year... so we will ride out of thier main shop in riverside, SKIP FORDYCE.
The ride will be lead by our friend Adam Martinez and will take about 1.5 hr route in our area, coming back to BOONDOCKS bar and grill!
Judge Jackson is returning also some special guests?
So we will have a simple event, ride and party. Hopefully we will have some vendors. we will get some nice raffle prizes and have our raffle and leave it at that. We feel that by simplifying it and bringing it back home we will actually see more attendance. We have some new friends who have assured us that they are "on board" and who know alot of people in the world of mma and really want to help so thats exciting for us to see what happens with that.
This year we are going to donate to Ronald Mcdonald House charities and also earmark funds for mito research through UCSD via Rady Childrens Hospital where taryn goes.
We have met several other mito families in the area so we hope that they will come and share some of thier stories...
Well thats about it, got to go get Taryn up for the day.

We have had to stay here when Taryn has been in the hospital... truely a blessing to have this service so close to the hospital... you stay free and they have meals and activities... its a place where bias and prejudice are left at the door, having a place to de-stress... where you dont have to pay $$$ for a hotel... is amazing. Hopefully we will be able to send them a nice check this year!

This was Taryns billboard which was along the 91 freeway in Riverside County, CA, which is one of the busiest freeways in the southland. Thanks to Assemblyman Jeff Miller for helping with this.

Assemblyman Jeff Miller presents Taryn with the new California Annual Mitochondrial Disease Awareness week proclamation! This creates a permanent Mitochondrial awareness week in our state! The week is the third week in September which conforms with what other states are doing.
We had met the Assemblyman when he was the Mayor of our home town of Corona. He came to our home and met Taryn. Jeff promised that when he got to the assembly he would see to it that the resolution would be properly done and would lobby for its passing, which he did! It was memorable for him because it was his first bill passed as an Assemblyman! This resolution, and the awareness week is for everyone dealing with mito, no matter who you may or may not be affiliated with... it is not specific for any group or foundation... it is inclusive for ALL!!
